Close inner harbour racing

The MRX Yachts are available for Hire - for individual charters, race charters, group charters or corporate charters. The Fleet comes under Maritime NZ's Safe Ship Management program. Normal charters involve a safety and sailing briefing, a short practice session and then a race around the inner harbour. The Fleet is based at Westhaven within 5 minutes of the Auckland central business district. Information on hiring the MRX Fleet follows:

Unique Fleet of 11 Racing Keelboats

The large open cockpit makes the MRX easy to sail

MRX Yachting has a unique fleet of 11 identical MRX 10.2m keelers designed specifically for match racing.

International ompetitions are run each year in which local and overseas America’s Cup match Racers race. The MRX’s large cockpit and easily operated sailing controls take them ideally suited for teams of experts or beginners to race for hot competition and excitement.

Easy and Fun to Sail

Close racing makes it fun for all

Each MRX can take 4 to 7 crew. The yachts are easy to handle and the crew do not need to have sailing experience. Competent sailors are required to be in charge of each boat. Close racing in responsive one design yachts ensures plenty of action. Events start and finish at Weshaven, just beneath the Auckland harbour bridge.

The Race Program

Satisfaction after a successful race

The normal 3 to 4 hour program includes a safety and sailing briefing, on the water practice, a race around the harbour, pack up ashore and then celebrations and commisserations in the bar.

Customise your Event

Prize giving at the Squadron's Dinghy Locker

Events can be tailored to your specific needs, such as a morning, afternoon or evening race, regatta or cruise, for from 1 to 11 yachts and 4 to 77 people. A prize giving and after match function can be organised with the Royal NZ Yacht Squadron if your wish.
