Invitation to Overseas Crews

The Farr MRX Pacific Keel Boat Challenge is an invitation fleet racing event for 10 leading Yacht Clubs, Classes or Crews from around the World. We expect crews from USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands and New Zealand. The regatta is organised by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and Bucklands Beach Yacht Club as part of the Auckland Regatta.

Crews compete for the perpetual Pacific Keel Boat Challenge Trophy - a model Waka Taua or Maori War Canoe. Waka Taua are up to 40 metres long and were used to get warriors to their battlefields. They carried up to 80 paddlers and 130 men in total.

Great One Design Racing

The event is sailed in 10 identical 10.2m Farr MRX Yachts each with 6 crew. There is 1 practice day and 3 race days. Up to 12 windward leeward and harbour course races will be held on Auckland's Waitemata Harbour.

This is one design racing at it's best. The Yachts are ready to sail and cannot be altered so all you need is an able crew and your sailing gear!

"The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron is very pleased to host the Farr MRX Pacific Keel Boat Challenge.

The RNZYS welcomes overseas crews who compete in this event. They will have great racing in the Farr MRX fleet on Auckland’s Waitemata harbour and enjoy the camaraderie ashore. As a special token of RNZYSs welcome competing crews honorary membership to the Club for the regatta.
